When China was awarded the 2008 Olympic Games in 2001, it was expected that the Chinese communist regime would address its appalling human rights record. The Olympics are now 14 months away, but little has changed.
The international community, championed by UNHCR Ambassador Mia Farrow, has dubbed the Games "The Genocide Olympics" and has called for a boycott if China does not stop propping up the government of Sudan.
The Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) has recently branded the 2008 Olympics the "Bloody Harvest Games" following a report by Canadian human rights lawyer, David Matas and former Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific, David Kilgour, on the illegal harvesting of organs from Falun Gong practitioners (http://organharvestinvestigation.net ).
A boycott has also been threatened if China does not cease its persecution of Falun Gong.
The 2008 Olympics offer a critical turning point for the Chinese people. The Games cannot go ahead while the above atrocities are occurring—it would render hypocrisy the Olympic Charter's claim of encouraging "the establishment of a peaceful society concerned with preservation of human dignity."
We invite all of you who care about human rights, the fate of China, and indeed
the world, to join us on this historical stage to tell the Chinese regime that
human rights are supremely important. Human dignity must be upheld and respected.
